Workshops
The Hip-Hop Integration Program provides professional development workshops where educators learn innovative ways to invigorate their lesson plans using artistic and creative techniques and strategies. During these workshops, you will learn: the history of Hip-Hop culture, the definition and demonstration of Hip-Hop Integration, as lesson plan ideas based on this exciting new teaching method. In addition, all participants will have the opportunity to receive educational resources that will assist them in effectively implementing what they have learning in their own classrooms.
The History of Hip-Hop Culture
During this session, the participants will explore an interactive history of Hip-Hop culture. They will learn about the social, economic, and political conditions that have affected the youth in Bronx, NY, and ultimately, how the youth responded through artistic expression.
Hip-Hop Integration
This session gives an overview of Hip-Hop Integration, including the use of: arts integration, cooperative learning, and the multiple intelligences. Participants will be able to identify examples on how Hip-Hop Integration has been used in the classroom through the elements of Hip-Hop culture.
Classroom Management
Hip-Hop Integration can be a viable tool for classroom management. Participants will learn about classroom incentives, classroom setups, bulletin board ideas, classroom/team building exercises, etc. that can be effective in the classroom.
Lessons and Activities
The participants will explore three lessons involving Hip-Hop Integration. These lessons include: Graffiti Word Maps, Turntable Time Clocks, and Planets in Orbit. All materials will be provided for the participants. As they engage in each activity, they will be able follow the lesson plans and participate in group discussions.
Our Mission
By the end of the workshop, educators will be equipped with a variety of educational resources that will enable them to integrate Hip-Hop into the classroom. The most important aspect of Hip-Hop Integration is to be authentic in your approach, so feel free to find ways to remix and make it your own.
